PAR 4

The hardest hole on the golf course! A line left of the distant cypress tree is best and will give you a look at the green. Hidden bunkers on the right are in play if you cut the corner. A difficult green to hit with ‘the valley of sin’ at the front and surrounded by deep bunkers. Par this hole and you are off to a great start to your round!

PAR 4

This hole is a good test of golf and you will need to be on your game to walk away with a par here! Hit a solid straight drive avoiding the bunkers on both sides of the fairway to give yourself a good look at the green. The approach shot into this hole has to be equally as good as you are hitting to an elevated heavily bunkered green. Make a 4 here and you will be feeling pretty good about yourself!

PAR 3

A really good short Par 3. Take dead aim or play for the left side of the green where the bank feeds all shots here back to the middle of the green. Its a two tiered green and relatively easy when the pin is at the bottom. However it is a different hole when the pin is on the top level as it is a lot harder to get to and even more challenging when putting from the bottom to the top tier.

PAR 4

A magnificent short par 4 that seems like an easy hole until you play it!. Best line is over bunkers (225m carry) straight ahead or play short of them with a lay up. Plenty of room left but then very tough second to shallow green. The approach shot into a narrow two tiered green requires absolute accuracy or you will fall short or go long. Hit through the green here and you will faced with an even tougher shot just to get it back onto the green. A hole where you can make an easy birdie or an easy bogey.

PAR 5

Start with a blind tee shot and rip a drive over the big dune. If you have hit a good drive you will be tempted to go for the green in two. However there are bunkers all down the right side and there are a couple of bunkers on the left next to the out of bounds fence line. If you can’t get there in two then laying up is tricky where there are no bail outs. Play this hole with precision and you will be rewarded. Execute your shots poorly and the hole will gobble you up!

PAR 3

A controversial hole because good golfers find club selection difficult. Plenty of holes in Scotland and Ireland like this. Down wind plays a short 200m. Huge green with water hazard at rear. Left edge is a safe line. This hole calls for the golfer to really think about what shot to play. Depending on where the pin is can change the way you play your shot. Using the contours of the hole its best to go down 1 or 2 clubs and run the ball into the hole. True links style!

PAR 5

A great Par 5 that rewards a bold tee shot down the left side over the heavily bunkered hill. Driveline is stone cairn into a broad valley. Watch out for Tom Watson’s bunker at 250m from tee. Play to the left side of the fairway with your second shot to give yourself the best angle to the pin. Its a very undulating green so use the slopes to work the ball into the hole. A fun hole that rewards those who want to be creative in their shot making!

PAR 4

One of the great holes at The Dunes. Hitting the fairway is a challenge as you need to avoid the big, deep bunkers that run down the left side of the hole. Miss it to the right and you will have a very long second shot. The approach into the green is best coming in from the right side and use the contours of the fairway and green – safer than the left side of the green which is guarded by many deep bunkers. Make a par here and you will feel like you have picked up a shot on the field!

PAR 4

A good tee shot will really make a difference in getting on top of this hole. Avoid the left side of the fairway off the tee as there are big deep bunkers that will cost you shots if you are a bit careless with the drive! The approach shot is not that easy as you need to play short of the green and bounce the ball in to get it close. A great hole with a stunning clubhouse just behind the green and many onlookers watching you craft a score on this gem!

PAR 4

Drive to top of hill and give yourself a nice look at a well bunkered green. Avoid hitting down the left side as the fairway is lined with big deep bunkers and will eat you up if you take them on! Don’t go long with your approach shot here as the green slopes from back to front and is very, very quick. Tricky hole, you’ll need to put on your thinking cap with this one!

PAR 4

A super short Par 4 dog leg to the right that seems easy but more demanding than you think! Try to avoid the bunkers on the right side of the fairway off the tee. If you are long enough you can take them on and try get close to the green. Miss it right and you will pay the price and the thick rough will make hard to get on the green in regulation. The approach shot is to a large open two tiered green that is firm and quick. Ensure you have enough club to reach the centre of the green and you will give yourself a good look at a birdie.

PAR 5

A super Par 5 that is one of the best holes you will ever play. If you play for the roll and slope of the dunes you will be rewarded. Play a little to the right side of the fairway off the tee and the ball will feed back to the fairway. The second shot will need some nerve as you will have to hit over the wasteland that just looks brutal! Play more to the left than you think as the slope works the ball to the right and back to the middle of the fairway. Don’t be too greedy with the approach shot – play for the middle as it is a difficult green to hit – you will need to work the short game magic if you miss it.

“A super Par 5” – Nick Faldo (6 majors)

PAR 3

This is one of the toughest tee shots you will ever play. To find the green you will need to fly the ball all the way with spin to get it to stop safely. Watch out for nasty pot bunker on the right rear flank and the bunkers protecting the green on the left are equally as menacing.

“This is certainly one of the best par threes I have ever played” – Nick faldo (6 majors)

PAR 4

Play this hole from one of the most spectacular tee boxes on the course. You will need to drive your ball down the right side of the fairway and avoid missing left as there is a large wasteland bunker that will cost you a shot if you find it. The approach to the green at times is 1 or 2 clubs more than the yardage suggests so try to dial in and get your yardage right. Visually a beautiful hole that requires precision in playing it well.

PAR 4

A great golf links hole which requires vision and creativity when playing this gem! Get off well from the tee, no bail outs here, you have to hit it straight. If you are long enough you can ride the slopes and get to the bottom of the hill. The approach shot is not aimed to the middle of the green but to the left bank of the green. Hit it here and the ball will feed back naturally to the centre of the green. A super fun hole because you can play it so many ways!

PAR 5

This Par 5 will add in the drama to your day! Be tempted to bomb a big drive to get home in two by hugging the left side of the fairway over a big wasteland bunker if you have what it takes! A good drive will allow you to have a go to get there in two. Play the second shot down the left side and it will work back to the green. Sensible more strategic golfers play more to the right but the second shot will be tricky as you have to avoid bunkers on both sides to give yourself a decent crack at the green. Depending on where the pin is located will change the way you attack this hole as there are some spots on the green that are impossible to get to.

PAR 3

A great Par 3 that can make or break a good round of golf! A well guarded, heavily bunkered, elevated green does not give you many options here. The best shot is to hit it high and try to land it as soft as possible. Just hitting this green is an achievement in itself and to escape with a par here is simply remarkable!

“This is an exquisite golf hole” – Tom Watson (8 majors). Need we say more – a spectacular par 3.

PAR 4

Probably no better finishing hole anywhere – a great finishing hole to your round! Hit a good solid drive down the middle of the fairway into a beautiful natural valley and you can have a good look at the green. Play safe for your second shot and aim to the left centre of the green to avoid catching a bunker. Walk away with a par 4 here and you feel satisfied and content that you passed the test!
